The project of packaging a fishing lure was a five week project that started out with packaging a piece of wooden dowel. The dowel was to represent any product of our choosing so in my case, I chose to package a fishing lure. The only constraints were to package to the 1-5/8" diameter dowel that measured 3-1/8" long, tightly with little to no movement. A standard package layout was chosen using the packaging program ArtiosCAD, adjustments were made to the product dimensions, physical details were added and graphics were made using Adobe Illustrator in order to create a more accurate package for in store purchase. The flat package with graphics was then taken to a Kongsberg table to be properly cut out and folded.
Layout
In order for the Kongsberg table to register where to cut the package, ArtiosCAD uses different color lines to represent different features. The green lines are the bleed boundary that the graphics will be printed up to, the black line is the actual package outline to be cut and the red lines are fold lines where the package needs to be bent and folded. The black dots around the edge of the document are register marks for the Kongsberg table to make sure if multiple pieces are being cut at once, the table always registers and cuts the document properly. Below is the final physical package layout along with the final graphics as well.
